A 24-core single-mode fiber optic cable uses a 12-color sequence repeated with a distinguishing stripe to identify each fiber, with a yellow jacket indicating single-mode fiber.Outer Jacket Identification

Single-mode fiber cables are typically yellow-jacketed, which visually distinguishes them from multimode fibers (OM1/OM2 orange, OM3/OM4 aqua, OM5 lime green) and indicates a 9µm core designed for long-distance, high-speed transmission using laser sources . The jacket color provides a quick reference for technicians during installation or maintenance.

Inner Fiber Color Coding

The TIA-598-C standard defines a 12-color sequence for individual fibers within a cable:

  1. Blue
  2. Orange
  3. Green
  4. Brown
  5. Slate
  6. White
  7. Red
  8. Black
  9. Yellow
  10. Violet
  11. Rose
  12. Aqua For cables with more than 12 fibers, such as a 24-core cable, the sequence repeats for fibers 13–24, but each fiber in the second group is marked with a black stripe or other distinguishing mark to differentiate it from the first 12 fibers . This ensures each fiber can be uniquely identified during splicing or patching.
Example for a 24-Core Single-Mode Cable
  • Fibers 1–12: Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate, White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose, Aqua
  • Fibers 13–24: Blue with black stripe, Orange with black stripe, Green with black stripe, etc., following the same order
